Fifteen years in the game, and the honours keep coming. Davido is set to become the second Nigerian artist inducted into the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame, following Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. Organisers who announed it on Instagram, described him as “a global force in Afrobeats” who has helped bring African music to the forefront of the international stage.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for June 1, 2026, along Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Northside Drive in Atlanta’s Historic Westside, outside Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Davido joins a 2026 class that includes Atlanta rap heavyweight Ludacris, gospel bishop Paul S. Morton, and the late former Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson. Past inductees on the Walk include Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Usher, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, James Brown, Quincy Jones, and Stevie Wonder.
The American-born, Nigerian-raised artist has accumulated over five billion streams and 1.2 billion video views. In 2023, he became the first African artist to top the iTunes Album Chart with Timeless, which earned three Grammy nominations. His fifth studio album 5IVE, released in April 2025, earned him a nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 68th Grammy Awards — giving him five Grammy nominations in total.
For an artist who has spent fifteen years pouring himself into the culture — building bridges between Nigeria and the world, this one feels like a long-overdue settling of accounts.
